Water Heater - Anode Rod Replacement
You can double the life of your water heater in 15-20 minutes with a $28 dollar part.
The anode rod self sacrifices itself to prevent the tank and other metal parts from rusting or corroding. It wears away in the process though. If you replace before it has worn out, you can easily add many years of life to you hot water heater.

Driving in Snow with RWD - Avoid the Canadian Police Chase!
Просмотров 3774 месяца назад
We take a drive in a rear wheel drive dually truck (2006 F350 6.0 diesel) to talk about several different techniques for snow driving. We talk about types of slides, understeer, oversteer, and how to recover from them. Hazardous things to be on the lookout for such as black ice / white out conditions. We climb some hills, long downhill sloping stops, and then go off road in fresh snow with 4WD.

    Thank you for making this video, great explanation of how a hydrostatic pump and motor works. On the dry axle issue, maybe a solution is to fit something like a Scott Oiler - it's a system that automatically lubes motorcycle chains but something like it fitted to those dry points might help.

    Van you think of any reason the rotation of the pulley put in reverse the pump works otherwise I have some flow of oil but no power to the drive. This is the 5th time taking it off ad priming everything perfectly. But can't get power unless I rotate the pulley backwards. It's not supposed to rotate that way plus no way to reverse it ...that would not work anyway. I'd take it apart again but I can't think how thats possible. I just fix all the issues now this happens it worked fine before.

      Not familiar with that unit, but many of them have a bypass / pressure relief of some sort than can be engaged to free-wheel / tow the machine. Sometimes just a lever, or a bolt you turn. It allows the fluid to the drive motor to bypass in a loop so that the output shaft can free-wheel. I am wondering if maybe that could be related to your issue?

      @@ModernSurvivalists Thanks, I took it apart and found the tiny nut on the Reverse poppet valve came off and the spring backed off. Also there were 3 tiny pieces of metal inside the pump barrel. I think from the pump springs. This metal scored the port plate and bottom of the barrel so I am replacing those and reinstalled the nut on the poppet valve with lock tight. Keeping fingers crossed.

    • @ModernSurvivalists
      @ModernSurvivalists 2 месяца назад

      On this model I believe it is for transmission function only. The variable swash plate pump will only generate flow with pedal input (by design). Some hydro transmissions do have a small auxiliary pump that can be used for raising a mower deck or power steering etc. Larger equipment with bigger hydraulic needs will usually have a dedicated gear driven pump for those circuits.

    Know the vid is 7yrs old but wanted to share a tip if one finds themselves in a very low traction situation on a ver steep incline (in a RWD car with manual trans or an automatic with triptronic or that lets you select 1st gear)… Put car in 1st gear. Turn traction control off as instructed in this video, but we’re going to “ski” up the hill as I like to call it (this mostly applies to hardpack snow/ice mix situations, again, on very steep hills)… Now to ski up the hill, you’re in 1st gear with TC off, and then you start pulsing the gas pedal to get the rear wheels to spin as you rhythmically steer back and forth with your pulses… find your rhythm & steer+pulse like a graceful ballet dancer to initiate a controlled fishtail. Once you start moving just maintain your rhythm and the rear end of the car will swing back and forth as you “ski” up the hill. I live in Portland and do this all the time when we have ice storms (more frequent than snow here) in a RWD BMW, and even pulled it off with very low tread left on my all season tires in the most “hilly” parts of town. ***Not recommended for beginner drivers and use in emergencies only***

    Coming down a compressed snow covered slope is far more tricky than going up. My Pajero with new snow tyres, 4WD, LSD and difflock would breeze up that so-called slope. The road up to my house is far steeper, but at least no one else would be deranged enough to drive down in 40 cm of fresh snow, but get the lights on. With automatic I find 2nd and out of overdrive is the best combination. Build up some speed and the momentum will carry you through. If you do have to lift off the power, it can feel like turbo lag as the snow retards an immediate response. Automatic means you can keep your hands on the steering wheel full time. Bumping the snow banks to scrub off some speed coming down with the road wheels locked risks spinning the vehicle through 180 and going down the rest of the slope in reverse. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit

      Sounds like a nice snow setup on your Pajero. No snowbank safety bumpers on our road unfortunately. Both sides are flanked with deep ditches to control the large amount of water runoff. You should film a down-hill descent like you describe! But I think you will be surprised how mild the grade will look when viewing from a screen!

    Traction Control does not directly create traction. It just reduces power to a wheel to help keep it from spinning. If there is no resistance between the tire and the road surface such as with a patch of ice the wheel will not spin because power has been greatly diminished to that wheel but the vehicle may not move either since there is reduced power to the wheel since it would only spin without any traction which is not created with Traction Control. A great tip that truck drivers use in icy conditions is to drive the vehicle in manual shift mode if possible and manually downshift using the engine to slow the vehicle and use the brakes as little as possible because even the slightest tap of the brakes under no traction conditions can seed the vehicle into a skid and control loss.

    Safety FIRST! You really should put a fuse or breaker of the proper size within 7 inches of the battery Positive post, if something was to happen (Overload) or short out (Shit Happens) there would be a fire. There are a lot of AMPS in a full charged battery. ALL of the Positive connections should be covered or insulated for the same reason. No different then a AC panel. Good question. I would probably use a shop rag to protect the finish between the chain and alloy, and then go slow applying as little pressure as necessary from the puller. I found putting some pressure on the wheel with the puller and then shocking the tire with a big hammer at the same time worked well.
